• I like these better than metal scribes because of the larger size of the face, I can hold this easily with more stability against the wood and it slides with very little friction.

• I have to admit, I like these marking gauges better than the much celebrated Tite-Mark Marking Gauge.
  ... Gasp! In the holy name of Chris Schwarz, why? Why?
  Well, I like the broad, flat face that allows for a more stable registration surface to slide along the side of the board that you are marking, and the wooden face has less friction than the brass that metal marking gauges are made from. Also, due to its larger size, I feel less clumsy holding this type of gauge. With the Tite-Mark, the knurled micro-adjust collar is right in the location that my fingers grip it to hold it, and I accidentally spin the micro-adjust while trying to scribe, and it shifts the scribing line over, unless I tighten the lock screw super tight. I know the Lee-Valley version doesn't do this, but it's also not as ergonomic for my hands, either.
